NYC Awards Greenest Building Designs

NY1 reported the winners of the city's green building competition yesterday.

The grand prize went to The Visionaire and the Battery Park City Conservancy's maintenance facility.

The two projects were designed to coexist in a single structure with a geothermal system for heating and cooling.

The Visionaire developed by the Albanese organizations is the developer's third green building in Battery Park City and is built on the last remaining residential plot in BPC.

The Bowery Hotel was also a winner. Guests at the hotel will be able to see their individual daily energy usage displayed on their televisions.

In addition, window gardens and the rooftop terrace will be treated with storm water.

The EPA and the city's Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability organized the competition.

Remaining units at the Visionaire range from a 605 square foot studio for $680,000 to a 1737 square foot 3 bedroom for $2,670,000.
