New York City Window Guards

IT'S SPRING! MAKE SURE YOUR WINDOW GUARDS ARE PROPERLY INSTALLED IN ALL WINDOWS!

Spring is here again, and it's time to make sure that every window in your apartment has a window guard.

New York City Housing Authority will install the window guards free of charge, at the request of a resident. The reasons are simple: window guards save lives, and it's the law.

New York City law requires landlords to install window guards in every apartment where a child aged 10 or under resides, or when a resident requests them, including ground floor apartments.

Thanks. We don't have window guards in Hawaii.

  2. Are you on crack? The law states 10 feet and above. Ground floor windows usually dont fall in that category. NYC will not do it for free unless you live in Government buildings, i.e. the projects.
DUH. Since all comments must be approved by this blog author I doubt you will see this.
Aloha to Keahi. You dont need window guards in Hawaii because when a child less than 10 falls out of a window a Teradactyl will appear and swoop the kid up. They MAY or MAY NOT eat the kid but at least its out of your hands. What if a kid falls to his death at the exact second he just turned 11?

  3. MrSMF: Thanks for your comment. The blog post was written directly from a nyc housing authority press release. Since the post is more than a year old I no longer have the press release. Below is the url to the nyc housing authority website.

Window guards save children’s lives. Because the safety of children is of utmost importance, the New York City Housing Authority strictly enforces New York City’s window guard law. If you have children age ten or younger living in your apartment, you must have window guards installed in your apartment. NYCHA will install the guards at no cost to you. Please call your Management Office to request immediate installation.
