Here Is New York: Remembering 9/11/01

"Voices, images, and objects: our memories of September 11, 2001 and its aftermath are grounded in tangible things, many of them rendered unforgettable by the events they summon up for us."

The New-York Historical Society's exhibit, "Here is New York: Remembering 9/11/01" takes as its starting point this grounding in the materials of history, grieving, and memory.

This haunting new exhibit commemorates the sixth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks. The exhibit features hundreds of stirring photographs and a display of artifacts saved from the wreckage including landing gear from United Flight 175 and American Flight 11.

This emotional recollection of the events of September 11 depicts New Yorkers galvanized in their mission to help one another. The images range from dramatic views of Ground Zero to scenes of remarable acts of heroism, expression of grief and rememberance, and even protest.

More than 500 video/oral recordings of survivors, family members, recovery workers volunteers and others provide context for the objects and images being presented by the Society.

The exhibit runs from September 11, 2007 - December 31, 2007. Admission is free on September 11, 2007.
